Your Dream Trip is Closer Than You Think—Here’s How to Make It Happen

Picture yourself gazing at the Eiffel Tower from a cozy Parisian window or standing in the footsteps of your favorite artist in a historic city. For so many, these are dreams—trips we imagine taking “someday.” But here’s the thing: “someday” doesn’t have to wait until retirement. With a little creativity and strategic planning, your dream trip is within reach right now!

Define Your Dream

Is it Paris? A coastal cruise? Or maybe visiting the home of a historical icon? Get clear on where you want to go and what inspires you. Imagining yourself there is the first step to making it real.

Turn Your Savings into a ‘Travel Hustle’

Every dollar saved brings you closer to the Eiffel Tower or those winding European streets. Set up a dedicated travel account and think of ways to build it up quickly—consider a side gig, selling unused items, or cutting back on non-essentials.

Points, Rewards, and Hacks

Yes, credit card rewards can be your travel BFF! But the trick is knowing how to play the game. Find a card that rewards travel spending and rack up points with your daily purchases (while paying off the balance monthly, of course!). A few months in, and you’ll start seeing those points add up for free flights or hotel stays!

Think Long-Term, But Not Too Long

We often think of grand adventures as something for “one day,” but why not make it happen sooner? With consistent effort, that “someday” could be next summer, not decades down the line. Time is precious, so let’s make your dream trip happen while you can truly enjoy it.

A Personal Experience: From Idea to Adventure Back in 2019, after rejoining the workforce, I watched as my best friend and her sister—both retired—planned their next big adventure: a trip through Europe. The original plan was for me to join them for a week or two in 2020, but as we know, travel plans changed that year. Eventually, they set their sights on an extended 2-3 month journey in 2022, and I was there, helping with searches, reservations, and encouraging them from before to afar.

When they reached out, asking me to come along for just a week, my husband urged me to go. After working hard, he reminded me I’d earned a chance to unwind and explore. With points and credit card rewards, I was able to split the cost of lodging with my friends and secure a last-minute flight to London. The entire trip cost me $3,800. That experience ignited a passion to travel more and dream bigger.

Just two years later, I embarked on another adventure with the same best friend and some newer ones, this time for three unforgettable weeks across Greece. With flight, lodging, food, and activities, the entire trip came to $5,200. By booking in parts over 4 months, I managed to spread out the expenses, making it even more affordable and stress-free.

Take the Leap—Your Dream Trip Awaits!

Travel doesn’t have to be an elusive dream. With strategic planning and a little dedication, you can bring your travel goals within reach. Take the leap, make the plan, and let the excitement drive you! With creativity and commitment, your dream trip is much closer than you think.
